Myeongdong's five: three Chinese-Korean kitchens, a noodle institution, and a standing grill
Three of the five Myeongdong listings here belong to the same category — Korean-Chinese kitchens run by the neighborhood's shrinking cluster of overseas-Chinese-owned restaurants — and each specializes differently within it. Sandong Gyoja keeps a no-reservation, walk-in-only line for ohyangjangyuk (five-spice sliced meat), samseon jjamppong, and kkanpunggi, with BYO corkage on the side; Sung Si-kyung's Muktende noted it had also aired years earlier on the broadcast show Sooyoomisikhoe. Haenghwachon, near the former Chinese embassy quarter, is built around the standard trio of jjajangmyeon, jjambbong, and tangsuyuk.
