How to eat where Koreans actually eat
The gap between "good restaurant in Seoul" and "restaurant tourists get sent to" is enormous — and it's not about hidden alleys. Koreans broadcast exactly where they eat, in Korean, on YouTube. This site translates that signal. Here's the method, and how to use it.
The method (do it yourself, or let us)
- Follow trusted Korean curators, not English reviews. A handful of Korean food YouTubers publish selection standards and face their Korean audience's judgment every week. Their picks are accountability-backed in a way aggregator stars aren't.
- Demand cross-verification. One video can be a fluke or a sponsorship. Two independent channels agreeing, or a channel returning 180+ days later, is real signal — that's what moves rank on this site.
- Check the place still exists. Seoul restaurants close fast (roughly one in six closes each year). We verify every listing against Seoul's official business registry and print the date on every page.
- Know how to get in. Most local favorites are walk-in; some run waitlist kiosks or CatchTable. Every listing carries a Getting-in label. Full reservation guide →
Using the list well
- Start from a craving, not a neighborhood: Grilled Meat & K-BBQ · Gukbap & Hot Soups · Seafood & Hoe · Cafés & Desserts · Drinking Spots · Korean-Chinese — every category is ranked by verified Korean-curator signal.
- Use the presets: "No lines" when you're hungry now, "Under ₩15k" for everyday meals (price guide →), "Off tourist radar" when you want places international guides haven't found, "Solo tonight" for one-person-friendly counters.
- Trust the badges, not adjectives: "3 channels agree" and "Repeat visits" are counted facts, not editorial opinion. The full formula is public: how it works →
What we deliberately leave out
No pay-to-play placements, no fine dining over ₩120,000 per person, no reservation-only rooms you can't realistically book, no tourist-menu translations of a different (worse) menu. If a listed place closes, we mark it closed rather than quietly deleting it.
