Ikseon-dong's soufflé-pancake years — and what to eat between cafés
Six of the eight Ikseon-dong listings here are cafés inside converted hanoks, and three of those six serve some version of the same dessert: soufflé pancake. Dongbaek Yanggwajeom, open since 2017, is widely credited as the shop that started it — the original soufflé-pancake café that put Ikseon-dong's hanok-alley dessert scene on the map, and it still draws a standing line most evenings years later. Cafe Onhwa's Ikseon branch, open since 2019, serves its own version inside a U-shaped hanok with a glass-and-fabric-roofed courtyard, and was already known for the dessert before it appeared on the broadcast show Sooyoomisikhoe. Cheongsudang, open since 2018, sits between the two by date and takes a different approach — its signature is a soufflé castella and matcha mont blanc, entered across a stone path over a garden pond. Two of the eight are not cafés at all. Igyeongmun Sundae-Gopchang, open since 2002 one street over, serves a blood-sausage and beef-tripe hot pot in the ₩ band, closed Sundays. Chanyangjip, open since 1998 at the mouth of the alleys, has a two-item menu — haemul kalguksu, hand-cut noodles in a clam and mussel broth, and handmade dumplings — both ₩9,000, also closed Sundays.
Seoul Coffee's Ikseon roastery, also open since 2017, is the coffee counterpart rather than a dessert café: three house blends poured inside a multi-room hanok, with no table-management app even after years of weekend queues. Nakwonyeok, the newest of the six cafés at 2021, breaks from the soufflé-pancake and roastery pattern altogether with an old-train-platform concept — track running through the seating alleys — and a seoktan (charcoal) coffee that's become its most-cited order in recent visits.
None of the six cafés carries a video credit from the curators tracked on this list. Ikseon-dong's café cluster runs on opening years and direct verification rather than YouTuber sourcing — the same rule applied to every café listing on this site.
